A birthday to remember

I don’t think i could ever top a gift like tickets to Discovery Cove for my partner’s birthday.

When we booked to go to Florida a few years ago i decided to surprise him with a trip to Discovery Cove on his birthday whilst we were there. We arrived for opening time so we managed to book in for an early swim with the Dolphins. We managed to sneak in some breakfast at the park before heading to the meeting point.

We then headed over to the lockers to store our bags (lockers were included) and we put on our wetsuits and sun cream. It’s not the nicest of creams but it’s safe for the Dolphins and the fish. Don’t worry they do provide this you don’t have to have your own.

Naturally there’s a briefing video to watch before you are taken over to the water to meet the dolphins. We had two lovely dolphins Jenny and Capricorn. Capricorn only had 3 teeth bless him. It was a fairly small group me, Jon and our friend Tom, another couple and then a lady with her two children. The waters are shallow and you get roughly 30 mins with the dolphins where you will stroke them, see them feed and be pulled along by the Dolphin. You can choose to swim shallow or go further out. Im not a strong swimmer and it’s the first time i had ever done this so i went shallow. And of course a good old fashioned smooch.

As snorkelling gear was also provided we took a swim in the reef nearby with the tropical fish. It was beautiful i managed to swim quite a few laps round before realising i was swimming side by side with a shark. I jumped out of the water and i tried to show Jon i wasn’t cracking up. As we were under water you can’t really tell that theres glass separating you from the sharks so panic over.

All you food and drinks are included so as well as our breakfast we had dinner as well. To top the day off Jon absolutely loves otters and there was an oasis with otters and marmosets.

A nice little treat for me was the Aviary as i love birds and you can feed them.

All in all it was a lovely day and well worth the money, i don’t think Jon will forget it anytime soon. Yes the swim was a wonderful start to the day but the relaxation from the Reef area and the interaction with the birds in the aviary just made it all more worth it.
