On Debbie's Cruise Dial

What would you do with your very own private island?

Most of us could only ever dream of owning our own private island. I can picture my ‘Debbie Island’  with my very own hot tubs and swimming pools, beautiful beaches with beach bars serving all my favourite cocktails and food.  What a way to live!  And it would definitely be somewhere hot. This month it has been announced that MSC cruise lines have begun the process of turning this dream into a reality for its future passengers.

On 16th January MSC cruise lines broke ground on their very own ‘Ocean Cay Marine Reserve’.  This will be situated south of Bimini in the Bahamas and will be part of many of their itineraries for lucky passengers travelling with MSC from November 2018.  It has been described as a natural paradise and will provide all passengers private access to their haven which is set to boast numerous water sports, a pier, 2000 seat amphitheatre and a Bahamian village with shops, restaurants and a music gazebo!  They will be following the lead of other major cruise lines who already boast their own private islands which provide the perfect place for its guests to relax during their busy itineraries and lots of happy previous guests would agree!

The Bahamas seems like the perfect spot for it!  Norwegian cruise line started the trend back in 1977 with ‘Great Stirrup Cay’.   Their Island has recently undergone a makeover and now includes even more facilities including a 1000 ft. zip wire course! They were followed by Royal Caribbean with ‘CocoCay’, Disney Cruise Line with ‘Castaway Cay’, Holland America with ‘Half Moon Cay’ and Princess Cruises with ‘Princess Cays’.  Have any of you been to any of these private islands?  We’d love to hear about your experiences.

If you’re feeling a bit cold, fed up and like winter will never end have a look at some of the private islands you could call yours, even if only for a day.
