What is the Seabourn Difference? Food Glorious Food!

A few weeks ago, I wrote my first blog about my time on-board Seabourn Odyssey and told you about how the incredible service on-board made Seabourn extra special. This week I will tell you all about the amazing food options!  The fantastic thing about Seabourn is that you can enjoy different dining experiences and it is all included in the price you paid when you book your cruise.  Here’s a sneak peek at some of the options available:

The Patio

We loved this area by the pool for lunch.  We could enjoy either ordering from a small menu which included the most amazing burgers or go to the small buffet area where the cooks served us from very fresh tasting salads, soups, pizzas, baguettes and meat options.  This was perfect to enjoy on a sunny day with a cocktail.  In the evening this turned into a very special dining area called ‘Earth and Ocean’ (weather permitting).  Here you could enjoy dining outdoors from a different menu theme each evening.  You don’t need to worry about getting cold as they bring out heaters and provide blankets if needed.  The puddings here are especially amazing!

The Colonnade Restaurant

You can enjoy buffet here for breakfast and lunch and the amount of choice and quality of food is fabulous!  This is not your regular busy buffet restaurant and we always found we could find a seat, were served drinks and our cutlery was nicely laid out for us.  In the evening this becomes a waiter service dining area but with a more relaxed feel to the main restaurant.  It has a different theme every night where you can dine on 3 courses.  I enjoyed this area for the lovely views from higher on the ship and fantastic fun service from the staff members.  There is a lovely terrace area just outside with lovely views from the back of the ship.

The Restaurant

This is the Main dining restaurant which is used just for dinner.  It is open dining between 6pm and 9pm and we could easily find a table for 2 (or you can choose to share if you like).  This is slightly more formal, but you didn’t feel the need to dress up too formally.  There are 4 courses here (or you can have more if you can’t decide between options!).  Again, service here is fantastic and this area has a better variety of choice than the other dining venues in the evening.  The dining area itself looked very elegant.  My favourite dish I had here was a beautiful Lamb Shank which I would very much recommend!

The Grill by Thomas Keller

The food here is absolutely to die for.  The restaurant only covers a small area, so you must make a reservation but is well worth it!  We didn’t order a starter (just because we were told how big and amazing the steaks are here!)  I order the steak Diane which was just beautiful.  I also ordered wedges, carrots and macaroni cheese for sides and a sundae for pudding!  This was my favourite meal of the week and we sat there for ages enjoying it with wine and at no point felt rushed.  I highly recommend booking for this and it is again all included in the price of your cruise.

In-suite Dining

We enjoyed this option on most mornings as it was great when going out early to be able to relax in our suite with breakfast.  Unlike with most cruise lines the staff members don’t just deliver the food and leave for you to set up.  They spend that extra time laying the table for you with a tablecloth and pouring your drinks.  This makes so much difference to the dining experience!  Another great thing about the room service for breakfast is that you weren’t limited to a continental breakfast and you really had all the options you would get in the Colonnade restaurant to choose from!  Room service is 24 hours and I stayed in on my last night as was feeling a bit sea-sick so chose some pasta to eat and bread.  This was all very nice and fresh.  You can also enjoy all options available in the Restaurant for dinner in your stateroom.  The perfect option for a nice night sitting on the balcony!

Seabourn Square

You could enjoy a selection of pastries, sandwiches and cakes with a coffee in Seaborn square whilst reading a book or playing a game

Overall, I found the food quality excellent (and miss it very much!)  The best I have experienced on any ship and loved how I could have so many different dining experiences without having to spend another penny.   Well I hope I’ve made you as hungry as I’ve made myself whilst writing this blog :).
