I have been lucky enough to visit two of the P&O ships this month whilst they’ve been docked in Southampton. First I had a tour and lunch on the Oriana and 2 weeks later the Ventura. I was very impressed by both but they are very different ships so I thought I’d share my pictures and some information about these ships from my 1st hand experience.
P&O Oriana
Holding a capacity of 1880 guests she is one of the smallest of the P&O ship. Although technically classed as a medium sized ship. This is an adult’s only ship so would not allow anyone under the age of 18 to sail on-board. This is a very attractive prospect for many adults looking to relax and enjoy ship life without children on-board. This also means that many of the sailings are more targeted to the adult market too. For instance, just after I reluctantly disembarked she was sailing on an amazing voyage to Iceland to see the Northern lights. The inside scoop is that this is quite spectacular and a favourite with many of our cruisers! The Oriana has recently had a re-fit and has a very classic and sophisticated feel with speciality restaurants, many bars, luxurious spa facilities and facilities such as a theatre, extensive library, a couple of pools, deck games and a cinema to keep guests happy. My colleague who has worked on many ships said this one was her favourite and has very fond memories!
P&O Ventura
I must admit a week after my visit I booked my own cruise as I loved this ship so much! In contrast to the Oriana, the Ventura is larger with a capacity of 3078 guests. She is a family friendly ship and children have access to ‘The Reef’ which is an exciting area for children’s clubs for different age groups where adults can rest assured their children can be left and will be very happy and well cared for while they go off for some well-deserved me-time. Looking at the club time-table I know where my kids would rather be! Treasure hunts, pyjama parties and discos would win over the theatre every time! What struck me about the Ventura is the amazing contempered feel to it. There is beautiful artwork wherever you turn and bars and restaurants designed to suit every taste. Our guide who has been on the ship many times and shared that she has enjoyed many a bar crawl on-board as there are so many. The spa facilities and pools look beautiful and some of the agents I was with especially recommended paying for a trip to the retreat for ultimate relaxation.
