My day on-board the Queen Elizabeth!

Ok, so I’ve been on a fair few ship visits this year as some of you would have seen if you follow my page.  They are great to help us experience these amazing ships we sell and then we can pass on our experiences to our customers.  This is invaluable when recommending cruises as they are all so different and so are our customers.  Here’s the lowdown on my ship visit on Cunard’s Queen Elizabeth and what I thought of the ship.

I was very excited about this ship visit.  The Cunard ships are iconic and I really wanted to get on-board and experience it for myself.  On embarking we were greeted by an amazing atrium but soon whisked away to do a tour of the cabins and suites.  They were very well appointed and surprisingly spacious.  Especially so with the suites which are well worth a look if you have a bit more to spend or are cruising for a special occasion.  The type of cabin you book reflects upon which restaurant you dine in.  For the Britannia inside, outside and balcony cabins you will dine in the Britannia Restaurant.  I experienced lunch here myself and found it very comfortable, service to be excellent and the food was very tasty.  If you opt for a Britannia club balcony stateroom you benefit from eating in your own exclusive Britannia club restaurant.  You also get complimentary room service.  The next step up is a Princess Grill suite.   These suites offer more space and luxury within the suite and a superior dining experience in the Princess grill.  This is a huge draw for many guests as they enjoy a more intimate dining experience with a great choice of dishes available and the option to dine in the Grills Courtyard.  There is also an exclusive lounge available to grill guests which enjoys great views from the top of the ship and opportunities for afternoon teas, pre-dinner drinks and evening dancing.   Guests also have access to an exclusive deck for Grills passengers so you can sunbathe and relax away from the main areas.  The Queens grill includes all that the Princess grill guests have except the dining is in the Queens Grill restaurant which is very elegant and boasts having the very best chefs and a fine dining experience.  You will have a more spacious suite and Queen’s grill guests benefit from Butler service!  There really is no need to worry if you have just booked a Britannia cabin or Britannia club cabin as there are so many amazing venues on-board at your disposal.  I did however really like the fact that guests who have paid considerably more for their suites get some lovely extras over and above just a bigger room to add to their experience.

On surveying the outside area this was very traditional and well appointed.  There were even garden benches which I have never seen on a ship before!  There were very comfortable sun loungers, a beautiful pool area with hot tubs and a lovely outside space to eat which is always nice on a sunny day.    I must admit the inside space was what really had the wow factor for me though!  I loved the feel of the Garden lounge which you walk into from the pool.  It is a large venue where you almost feel like you are outside when inside as it is so light and spacious and hosts some entertainment and live sports.  This venue would be the perfect remedy for a rainy day.  I walked through the buffet restaurant which I commented was the nicest buffet restaurant I’d seen on-board a ship.  I’m not normally one to eat in a buffet restaurant but it really did feel very elegantly decorated and comfortable (and the food looked amazing!).  The spa was also very appealing and can be enjoyed by anyone who books a treatment or pays for a day pass.

As we went down to the lower decks the wow-factor really kicked in more.  Walking through the atrium, the amazing Queen’s room ballroom and to the theatre which even had boxes available for guests at a reasonable price to enjoy a show in extra luxury.  They had a traditional pub for a casual drink and dining experience, an amazing library (again the most impressive I’ve seen!) and a great choice of bars with pop up entertainment available.

I must admit I had my pre-conceptions about Cunard ships as being stuffy and possibly dated looking.  This was very wrong though as the décor is all beautifully elegant and the ship really does have the wow factor.  The service we received on the day was also brilliant.  I really can see why Cunard customers are reluctant to sail on other ships as when you are used to a ship such as the Queen Elizabeth I can imagine it would be difficult to look back.
