Racing cars at sea?

I am sure you have heard that Royal Caribbean’s Quantum class ships have fantastic on board features such as robotic bar tenders, sky diving at sea and even an arena for bumper cars.

Well to try and out do Royal Caribbean’s newest features , Norwegian cruise line (NCL) have announced that on their newest ship Norwegian Joy which is due to enter service 27th April will have a two level Formula 1 inspired race track on board.  The track will have Ferrari  branding and the cars will be electric.  There will be the chance of racing up to 10 cars around the track.

Passengers who are in the Haven and Concierge staterooms will have a number of free rides as part of their accommodation amenities, which makes me wonder that if you are not in these staterooms then how much will it be to have a go on these futuristic race cars?  I bet it will not be cheap and the cover charge has not been announced and this is another way a cruise line will extract more money out of clients.

The big however is that the Norwegian Joy is being marketed for the Chinese market and will be home port in Shanghai.  So if you wanted to be one of the first to race on the open seas you will have to travel to the Far East.

MSC Prezioza 2

If you did fancy a Formula 1 trial then there is always MSC cruises.  Preziosa has a virtual F1 machine on board, warning though it is quite hard!
