Lost at Sea!

‘Lost at Sea – a Mother’s tale’

Several years ago, I took my son who was 13 years old at the time on an NCL cruise to the Mexican Riviera (our first together).  We had our photo taken upon boarding, was shown to our stateroom and then we began the task of finding our way around this magnificent vessel.

We took part in some events and then we found the ‘teenage’ club which he attended on our first day at sea, giving him a bit of independence.

We agreed a time to meet back in the cabin and I left him there whilst I went to pool deck and sat sipping a cooling and refreshing drink.

It was a wonderful day at sea and at the agreed time I returned to our cabin and waited for my son to return.  15 minutes passed by, then 30 and I thought he must be having a good time at the club but thought I’d better call just in case.  They said he had left 40 minutes ago.  I was worried but knew he couldn’t have left the ship as we were at sea.

A bottle containing a confused message saying "I'm lost" is stranded in the surf at water's edge on a beach. .

I called the Reception desk who reassured me they would find him.  10 minutes later there was a tap at my door and a young man asked ‘is this your son?’.   I have never felt so relieved in all my life.  He had been found wandering around, had got disorientated and was looking on the wrong deck, had tried to get into what he thought was our cabin and couldn’t get access.

I made sure for the rest of cruise he knew exactly where our cabin was and I’m glad to say he wasn’t ‘lost at sea’ again.
