Reasons To Sail From Basel

Personally Basel is one of my favourite ports to sail from and there are a number of reasons why…

Flying to Basel airport to meet your transfer for your cruise is brilliant. It is a small airport so getting through customs and collecting your luggage is a stress free experience.

The transfer to the port is only around 30 minutes, so doesn’t take long either.

Once you are on-board the ship it is easy to make your own way into Basel centre to explore at your own leisure. You can take a taxi or some river cruise ships have bicycles on-board. When I was there we decided to cycle into town and it was a great way to see the beautiful views of the river.

Basel is a lovely town to take a stroll around. It is a medieval old town that has plenty to see such as the 12th century Gothic cathedral and the red-sandstone town hall.

There are quaint cobbled streets to walk down and lots of local shops to buy any souvenirs. There are plenty of cafes, bars and restaurants to choose from.

For me one of the biggest reason to sail from Basel is the River the city is on which is the Rhine. The Rhine is my favourite river to cruise on in Europe. The towns to visit along the Rhine are very charming and have some amazing sites such as Heidelberg Castle, Namedy Castle and you can see the remains from Roman times and the Middle Ages in Cologne. It is a great first destination if you have never river cruised before as you can explore the ports independently, short flight times and beautiful views.

There are so many fantastic places to visit along the Rhine and Basel is the perfect way to start your cruise.
