A sad week for the Travel Industry

Such a sad week for Travel and also for me personally a name very close to my heart.

Having only ever worked for an airline for years within travel, that is all I knew. Unfortunately, I had damaged my eardrum flying with a bad cold and had to take time away from flying and assess what to do next. It was a choice of staying on sick leave or getting another job and personally I need to work!

It was 2004 and I remember the advert in the newspaper and I was drawn to it because of the name, Thomas Cook. I thought to myself if I am going to do something it has to be with someone people know and trust. I had no experience working within a travel agency but 7 years of flying at least helped me have an understanding of the industry.

I went nervously for the job and was offered the job at the Interview, from that day back in March 2004 Thomas Cook became my new family and where I spent most of my time!

I worked in 2 shops over the years and the teams I worked with, made work not feel like work at all, it was a pleasure every day to be there. My closest friends in my life are still my girls at Thomas Cook. Customers who are loyal and whom a lot of are now friends.

Thomas Cook taught me so much from day 1 and I will always be grateful for the experience I gained over the years. A very sad loss for the industry, and such a very sad time for staff and customers with true commitment and loyalty that in the end, deserved better 🙁
