I’m sure I’m not the only one who takes a ‘complimentary’ souvenir from a ship – the odd ashtray or coathanger, I have a rather nice ‘no smoking’ sign from QE2 which got me to thinking that there might be some money to be made from cruise memorabilia and such souvenir items.
I searched on Ebay just to see what items sell for the most and what are the most desirable items – I was shocked!
Match books and key rings aren’t going to make you rich, this ashtray is on auction for about $3
A lot of the items aren’t worth an awful lot of money but are really nice vintage things to collect, I love these postcards and posters, they go for a few dollars and would look great framed
This P&O Oriana race card is a bargain at 99p
However if you have this poster hidden away you can expect to sell it at auction for over £100
A few other gems that caught my eye are this lovely Queen Mary kitsch snow globe – a bargain for $20
The serious money is for scale model ships like this scale Queen Mary model asking $595
I love this Vintage Cruise Liner Ship Reclaimed Porthole Coffee Table, I’m not sure this is something that could be taken as a souvenir – the current asking price is £699
And seriously who would pay over $1299 for a Disney Cruise Line DVC Disney Vacation Club Towel???
My absolute favourite is this vintage Lego Cruiseship which will knock you back £570
For the serious collectors you can buy a piece of Authentic RMS Titanic wreck wood from the aft Grand Staircase – White Star Line
(relic from the respected TitanicItems.com collection) – a ‘Buy it now bargain’ for $7150 !!
So the next time you are at a car boot sale or clearing out the loft or garage just check for the cruise memorabilia that just might pay for your next holiday!!
