Tipping on a cruise, how much will it cost me? It is one of those questions I occasionally get asked by customers and I have to admit i do not know each individual amount for every cruise line so I do have to refer to a list I have saved on my laptop. Tipping amounts are something you have to take in to account when budgeting for your cruise because it can add up.
I have compiled the current list of cruise line gratuities for some of the main lines, please bear in mind these can change as cruise lines do constantly review their policies. Check the cruise lines websites for further information.
Also worth mentioning, guests in suites do pay more – again check the individual cruise lines websites for further information.
Royal Caribbean Cruise Line : $13.50 per person per day
Celebrity Cruises : $13.50 per person per day
Cunard : $11.50 per person per day
P&O Cruises : $11.50 per person per day
Princess Cruises : $13.95 per person per day
Carnival Cruises : $12.95 per person per day
Cruise & Maritime Voyages : £5 per person per day
Fred Olsen Cruise Lines : £5 per person per day
Holland America Line: $13.50 per person per day
Norwegian Cruise Line: Included in the fare
MSC Cruises : 9 Euro per person per day
Thomson Cruises : Included in the fare
Oceania Cruises : $15 per person per day
Many of the six star cruises include gratuities within the fare also some of the river cruise companies include them.
So thats the list of the main cruise lines – I know some people do not agree with tipping, but it is part and parcel of cruising and as long as you are fully aware of the costs there are no surprises. The staff are definitely worth it because in my opinion the service at sea is some of the best I have encountered.
