Today NCL’s brand new ship Norwegian Breakaway had its official ‘Float out’. With 64 days before she officially joins the fleet she was floated out at around 7am from the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany, after spending 17 months under construction in dock II. The 145,000-ton vessel will undergo a series of tests over the next few weeks in preparation for her transatlantic crossing and year-round deployment from NYC, offering guests Caribbean and Bermuda sailings.
Have ever thought about how many ships there are out there? Obviously I deal with cruises on a daily basis and book so many different brands from Luxury Brands like Regent and Silverseas to the (what we call in the trade ) mass market brands like Royal Caribbean, Princess and MSC to name a few. I sometimes look at the amount of ships out there and especially the amount of larger ships with maximum capacity for over 6000 passengers and there are more of these MASSIVE ships coming in 2017/18 and beyond.
Well 2014 has been another great year for cruising as the industry again went from strength to strength.
With brand new super-sized cruise ships launched and brand new river cruise operators making the most of the inevitable size restrictions to launch new ships with step out balconies.
Im sorry but I simply had to have a post about the World Cup in football crazy Brazil. I am getting rather excited about it now as it starts TOMORROW (12th June). The opening match features hosts Brazil taking on Croatia, in a stadium that at the moment isn’t fully finished!!
A big Happy New Year to everyone.
I had a fantastic 2013 and 2014 should be even better. Last year I cruised on P&O Ventura and MSC Armonia and also spent an evening on board NCL Breakaway. Then to top the year off I attended the River Cruise convention in Cologne, which gave me a great insight into the River Cruise industry.
