The Savoy Hotel, London – The perfect pre-cruise (or post-cruise) stay, when sailing out of Tilbury…

I feel compelled to share my recent experience of the Savoy Hotel with you all, as it would make the perfect relaxing start to any cruise sailing out of Tilbury, the cruise port for London.

In 2018 it’s possible to begin a cruise from Tilbury on various sailings with Silversea Cruises, Viking Ocean Cruises, Cruise and Maritime Voyages, and Voyages to Antiquity, to a range of destinations across northern and western Europe.  If you have to travel a long distance to get to the embarkation port of Tilbury, then why not take the stress out of the journey, and treat yourself to an overnight stay (or two!) in central London, at the heart of the West-end’s Theatreland?

The rooms are elegant and traditional, yet have all the mod-cons you might hope for, including a state-of-the-art Loewe TV/entertainment system, variable lighting, plenty of electrical sockets/charging points, and a modern rain-shower.  Not that you’ll probably spend a huge amount of time in the room, as you’re located right on The Strand, only a short walk from Covent Garden and 1 block from the Victoria Embankment, on the north bank of the Thames.  The hotel itself has 2 bars, one of which is the famous ‘American Bar’, where a pianist plays and sings a variety of songs on a nightly basis, while you enjoy a cocktail or two!  The in-house spa is also not to be missed, with treatment rooms, an indoor pool, saunas, steam-rooms, and a fully equipped modern gym.

For the past few years, the Savoy has been run by the highly-respected Fairmont Hotels group, so you can also take advantage of their’ ‘President’s Club’ loyalty scheme, which runs across all Fairmont hotels Worldwide.  Never stayed at a Fairmont hotel before?  They only have 2 in the UK; the other one being at St Andrews in Scotland, so your choices in this country are a bit limited, but definitely worth experiencing if you can!
