Hopefully no soggy bottoms, but beautiful wobbles and frothy peaks on Britannia

This week saw P&O announce the latest Celebrity Chef to join its Food Heroes, and its none other than Mary Berry CBE. She is renowned for the Great British Bake Off TV show, (which even had me glued to the last series and I am not a keen baker), and also a writer with 16 books published.

Mary Berry will be heading up a line up of 10 celebrity chefs who will be hosting cookery classes in the Cookery Club, located on deck 16 on Britannia and has 12 stations for up to 24 people to create culinary masterpieces. The other chefs to join her are: Nathan Outlaw, Pierre Koffmann,  Theo Randall, Lawrence Keogh ,James Tanner , Vivek Singh, Daniel Galmiche, Antonio Carluccio and Paul Rankin.  They will all be appearing on sailings throughout the year.

Taking a class led by one of the Celebrity Chefs does come with a price tag of £100 per person  (if there are 2 chefs taking the class then its £200 per person !!!) I do like Nathan Outlaw and James Tanner – however £100 for two hours with one of them seems a little steep to me.

The classes can be pre-booked via the cruise personaliser 4 months before travel, and when the celebrity chefs are not on board they will be taken by a team which James Martin has put together and then the classes are only £45 per person.

I do like the idea of the cookery school and does seem popular on other cruise lines such as Oceania and Holland America, but is this novelty idea for the British market which will soon wear out, or will it prove to be popular and always fully booked? Only time will tell. I do hope it is successful for P&O. What are your thoughts? or have you booked to do a class?
