Does a tv show really show the best a cruise line has too offer?

First, we were shown the insight into Princess Cruises and met the colourful character, Timothy, then we watched Jane MacDonald cruise on various cruise lines and kept us guessing with which song we would be subjected to at the end of each episode, and now we have John showing off his most luxurious ship in the world but was this a good move by Regent?

So far there have been 2 episodes shown on Channel 4 pm and so far we have met John the Cruise Director who has his own evening performance in the Theatre, seen the chef shopping in the local market for fish, the production team rehearse and perform one of their own productions, the Captain and her team meeting all the guests at the block party.  But most oddly was the excursion they showed this week where the guests went into the Basque Mountains to a sheep herding farm – certainly not something I would choose to do when Regent include all your excursions in the cost of the cruise.

Having read the comments on the facebook forums I don’t think Regent is quite getting their key unique selling points across and maybe putting off a lot of potential Regent Cruisers. Yes, the ships are fabulous, beautifully decorated and the ships are all Suites – not cabins or staterooms (but not all at £8000 per night like they keep pointing out).

Included in the Regent Prices and known as Ultra All Inclusive is:

  • Return Airfare
  • Business Class upgrade if booking a Penthouse Suite or above and sailing in Europe
  • If booking a Concierge Suite or above then one-night pre-cruise hotel stay
  • All-Inclusive drinks (some wines of the list ie the $1000 bottle is chargeable)
  • Shore Excursions – no limits on the number so could do 2 a day if wanted
  • Unlimited Wi-Fi
  • Gratuities
  • Specialty Restaurants
  • Transfers between the airport and ship

I have been lucky enough to sail on the Regent Seven Seas Voyager a couple of years ago and experienced the six star service and I would thoroughly recommend a cruise on Regent and that when you price up your cruise to factor in drinks, shore excursions, the flights, and unlimited WI-Fi as you will be surprised that it may work out near or more expensive than Regents price.  You can read my previous blog here

Have a great couple of weeks
