Kerry's Cruise Guide

Chilled atmosphere on board NCL ………..

So this week saw NCL (Norwegian Cruise Line)
announce that another one of the ships in the fleet will now feature an Ice Bar on board. Currently the Epic and the Breakaway have the Ice Bars and now the new NCL Getaway which is going to be the largest ship to have its home port in Miami is going to have a Miami inspired Ice Bar.

The Ice Bar is going to be in Art decor style to depict Miami’s Ocean Drive and will also feature three dimensional Icy elements inspired by the city of Miami and a life size alligator made of ice.

The ice bar itself will be on deck 8 of the ship and will allow 25 people in a time and this can be reserved on board at a cost of $20 and this will include 2 signature cocktails. The Ice Bar will be kept at temperatures no higher than 17 degrees Fahrenheit so NCL supply hooded coats and gloves to keep warm. The tables, chairs and even the glasses the cocktails are served in will all be made of ice.

I have visited the Ice Bar in London (Below Zero) a couple of months ago with my family and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Similar to the Ice Bar on board NCL, Below Zero was all made of ice so we sat on ice stools and the table was made of ice and the complimentary cocktail we were given also was in the ice glass. Ther
e we were all given thermal hooded capes and gloves and the bar was at around 17 degrees Fahrenheit. When we made the reservation we were advised of the temperature and to wear sensible clothing and footwear – I was amazed people turned up in flip flops and sandals and wondered why their feet was so cold after only a short time into the reservation.

The drinks menu does sound rather nice in the Ice Bar on board the Getaway and the choices are:

So if anyone is sailing on one of the NCL ships the Ice Bar is something not to be missed
