Smoking on Board Ship Yes or No ???

Smoking On board ship a bone of contention for non smokers and smokers alike.

I do not know if you remember me posting on face book a while ago about the passenger that was asked to leave the ship, as he threw a cigarette end overboard and was seen.

He apparently was not even given the chance to apologise, Now as a smoker at the moment and also cruised as an ex smoker , I find that lots of people had opinions on this, and I thought I would share some of the views.

One customer thought that the safety of the ship must come first and I  wholeheartedly agree. I think some times people forget how dangerous a cigarette end can be. For example if you have read my bio, you will know I used to live in Spain, where some of the worst bush fires have destroyed homes, wild life and countryside. Usually from some one throwing a cigarette end out of the window whilst the car is moving.

Whilst I repped in Mojacar , I was involved in evacuating over 400 guests due to bush fires. The devastation afterwards was horrendous. Now imagine you are on board a ship in the middle of the sea and a fire starts! not good I would imagine.  No only do you put your own life at risk , but think of the other 3,000 on the ship.

I also agree with another customer who talked about the smoking areas only being at the back of the ship on some cruise ship. I noticed that on Britannia. The first time I went on board I was right at the front of the ship and luckily was not smoking then so did not give it a thought. However the second time I was smoking and then luckily we were at the back of the ship. I know some ships like Fred Olsen have one side of the ship, which seems a better option.

I truly believe that the cabins should all be none smoking with very powerful detectors as I did notice a lot of people would walk on to their balcony for a last minute cigarette of an evening and then throw the cigarette over the side. highly dangerous especially at night. Not to mention the pollution to the sea.

I want to finish by saying that smoking is a choice but as it effects others then some standards have to be adhered to, and consideration for others is a must.

what do you think ????
