Congratulations to Her Majesty the Queen. Long may you Rule Britannia!
I was lucky enough to be on board Britannia for the Queens celebration of the longest ruling Monarch in England, and boy did we party. The atmosphere was second only to The last night at the proms.
After spending a very humbling day at Santiago de Compostela, watching all the pilgrims finish the camino and fall to their knees in front of the cathederal which takes centre stage in the town or chant as they arrived in their bare feet!
I felt ready for a nap as we re boarded Britannia in La Coruna.
I have never experienced an evening like it, there were flags from all over the UK and Commonwealth flying tall, the songs blasted as we all joined in, ‘Rule Britannia’ and ‘Land of Hope and Glory’ to name but a few.
Then we went around the UK and Commonwealth in song ; Bony Scotland had to be ‘I would walk 500 miles’, a bit of Tom Jones for Wales, Ilkley moor for Yorkshire, ‘Waltzing Matilda’ and so it went on in to the night. The staff put on a fabulous performance and had the crowd singing at the top of their voices. An all round truly rousing moment. I really don’t think I will experience the wonderful atmosphere and one man ship as we all sang with one voice ‘God Save our Queen’.
Even the Captain got up and put on a show, with a wonderful dance off to ‘Tonight,s going to be a good night!’
Then it was Pimms o’clock of course and cucumber sandwiches all round.My arms ached from waving my flags and clapping to the music, but wouldn’t have missed for the world. Still cheering and singing ,we made our way back to the cabin to get ready for our dining delights in the wonderful Peninsular Restaurant.
Needless to say the show after dinner and a couple of vino’s and I needed no rocking to sleep that night.
