Next time your ship calls at Belfast…..

I have just enjoyed a lovely chat with some customers of mine who have recommended Afternoon Tea at the Titanic Hotel as a great way to spend a day in Belfast, when visiting it as a port of call.

The Titanic Hotel opened at the end of last year in the Drawing Offices, the home of ship builders Harland and Wolff and they have been transformed with a £5 million Heritage Lottery grant secured by the Titanic Foundation. Many of the world’s most famous ships including the Titanic were built by Harland and Wolff, their influence within Belfast was immense and the building is in the heart of the ship yard, with views across the water.

The architects have restored the Drawing Offices and maintained the history and culture of the property which tells the story of Harland and Wolff and their ships. The hotel is home to over 500 photographs and pieces of art, passenger portraits and authentic White Star Line memorabilia.

Visitor’s to the hotel can explore the hotel with an Art and Heritage Trail map which is free of charge and half a dozen key heritage rooms are open to the public via a paid tour. The tour which lasts an hour and costs £9pp details the artefacts on display and tells the story of the restoration and interior decor of the building.

Afternoon Tea is served in the Drawing Office 2 or the Presentation Room. Here you are served as if you were dining on a cruise ship in the Golden Age of Hospitality with soft music playing in the background and elegant decor surrounding you. As you can see in the photo, the serving is ample and I believe the cakes were amazing. Afternoon tea is £29pp and must be prebooked at least 24 hours in advance.

Finally, if you find that your ship calls into Belfast on a Sunday; a two or three course Sunday Lunch is served.  The prices start at £23.50pp and prebooking is recommended but not essential.

I loved hearing about this place from  myguests and have really enjoyed reading up on the hotel and the history surrounding it. I will definitely pay it a visit, if ever I’m in Belfast and I would love to hear from anyone that goes there following my guests recommendation.

Thank you to Dennis & Shirley.
