One seed for mankind, one giant leap for potatoes.

Its been reported this week that us human meddlers are planting seeds on the moon. No, this isnt fake news I promise.

China (who else) have taken several varieties of seed to the far side of the moon and planted them in the first ever biological experiment to take place up there and no kidding…. the seeds have sprouted!!

OK so it may not be the most exciting news ever, but it certainly is interesting. Research had found that the lunar atmosphere is too thin to sustain life itself (so don’t go packing your cases just yet) but it wasn’t known whether plants could grow successfully so off they went in to space with rapeseed, potato and Arabidopsis seeds which have started to sprout. The Chinese National Space Administration said that it hopes the crops will form a miniature biosphere, essentially an ecosystem which is capable of sustaining itself.

Whilst I find it interesting, I’m almost certain that if plants were supposed to be on the moon then they would be. But what about humans? Sir Richard Branson of course is still on his Virgin Galactic mission where he hopes to be able to offer the first ever commercial human flights in to space for a hefty fee of course and I have read recently that he is ever closer and the man himself says that the first flight is close, months not years kind of close.

Scary and wondrous all at once how the world changes and how we advance in terms of technology. You only have to look at the first ever cruise liners to the modern day vessels. Not only have they multiplied massively in size from around 4000 tonnes to 230,000 tonnes, but the engineering and technology used in the build is dramatically different. Again Sir Richard (sensing a theme here) is currently building the first of 3 eco friendly liners which will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by converting engine waste heat into clean electricity as Virgin Voyages set to make waves in the cruising industry with the Scarlet Lady. Clever stuff.

But where does it end? I wonder what the world will look like in 200, 500 or even a thousand years time? Will we be able to time travel? Will our cars fly? Will we fly? If they’re growing tats on the moon Id say the possibilities are endless.
