Everyone has a Bucket List, dont they?

We all have those moments where we find ourselves deep in thought, often day dreaming about those places we’d love to visit and explore one day. The world truly is our oyster and cruises are a fantastic way of ticking off a few of those “To Do’s” on the bucket list, without all the packing and unpacking. There are still many, many places I am keen to visit and several things I would like to see and experience in each of those destinations. My list is so long that its difficult to put them in any type of order or to tell you about each one in my first blog, but I will share with you just a few of the experiences that make up some of my deep in thought moments.

Alaska – I have often looked at Alaska brochures and customer photos and been amazed at the beauty and stillness of its landscape. Not only is Alaska a sight for sore eyes there is much to do and see. The beautiful Glacier Bay National Park, an UNESCO  world heritage site spanning a whopping 3.3 million acres that is teaming with wildlife such as humpback whales, sea otters and harbor seals and the spectacular Margerie Glacier which stands at 40 stories high and over a mile wide. I think my top sighting would have to be a bear or two. Denali National Park is great for spotting the bears aswell as wide-antlered caribou, moose, gray wolves and Dall sheep – collectively known as the Denali Big Five. Id love to combine Alaska with a tour of the canadian rockies on the Rocky Mountaineer to experience the mountains, gold rush towns and coastal routes in style on board a luxury train.

Hawaii – Since the release of the movie Pearl Harbor when I was younger I have always wanted to visit the US Arizona Memorial which is what first sparked my interest in Hawaii but have since discovered there is much more on offer on the islands. Oahu is known for its surfing off Waikiki Beach and its array of marine life at Hanahuma Bay where you can snorkel with the once endangered Green Turtle. Explore the rain forests, waterfalls and valleys of Kauai which has featured in several famous movies including King Kong, Jurassic Park and Raiders of the Lost Ark. A trip to Hawaii wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Maui’s Haleakala Crater, a dormant volcano which is a breathtaking 10,000ft above sea level.

China – Again, so many things I would love to do here. The Chengdu Panda Base, founded in 1987 is a non profit breeding and research facility for the Giant Panda and other rare animals. I am a huge animal lover so to see the Pandas would be amazing. Tianamen Square with its monuments to the heroes of the revolution, the great hall of people, the National Museum of China, and the Chairman Mao Zedong Memorial Hall are all well worth a visit I am told.  Something usually on the ‘to do’ list for China bound travelers (and I am no exception) is the famous Terracotta Army in Xian,  a collection of terracotta sculptures said to have been buried with the first emperor of China Qin Shi Huang in 210–209 BC to protect him in the afterlife. Id love to cruise down the Yangtze River, see the Three Gorge Dam and Fengdu Ghost City or Shibaozhai to name just a few excursions on offer. Of course a holiday to China would not be complete without a walk along a section of the famous Great Wall, stretching approximately 13,170 miles from the East to the West of China.
