Oh no, its the school holidays!

Well there is no avoiding it now, the 3 words many of us parents dread are almost here…….school summer holidays!

We have to now juggle work, childcare, activities, queue 3 times longer than normal for any day out, put up with the unpredictable weather and boredom!  A great many parents find the long holiday difficult, expensive and the source of huge stress. We like nothing better than spending time at play with our kids. In fact, we’d love to do that but our bosses and bank balances won’t let us. It’s just not possible.  I agree with the majority that the price hikes for school holidays is wrong and we hear every year the government will look to stop this but I can’t see that ever happening………what do they care they are paid stupid amounts of money for doing very little in my eyes!

Instead we cobble together child care, pay for expensive summer schools or, if we can, take the bank-breaking decision to stop working for the period. Grandparents are bullied into babysitting while work-at-homers battle on in the face of bored and fed-up offspring.  

Luckily we are going away for a fortnight to Majorca in August to break up the hols! I love my family holidays and we’ve picked a hotel which isn’t too big in a small resort, as I don’t want 500 people around the pool, 1000’s on the beach or crowded restaurants. Last year it was Fort lauderdale for 05 nights and then a Western Caribbean so thought somewhere more local this year.  If we weren’t going away it would’ve been day trips out but I don’t want to queue all day for one ride in a theme park I’ve paid a fortune to get into, but I am a dad and I want to make my kids happy. Am I alone in thinking this?  How do you all feel about holidaying during the summer holidays? Are you a couple that avoid family ships , a family that would rather wait until term time, or do you embrace the family ships, the kids clubs, the waterslides and your children having the time of their lives. Anyway, the holidays are here and I hope you all have a great summer holiday whatever you decide to do.

Already been camping this year………fun for night or two but no more!

Let’s hope this fine weather continues, and it doesn’t turn to rain as soon as they finish.

If you’ve still not got anything booked, i’ll do my best to find you something in the holidays but be prepared a high budget will be necessary!!!!  Sorry!

The best advice I can give to you if you like to travel during the school hols is to book early as 3 / 4 berth cabins are very limited…….this is always the biggest issue.

If you’ve never cruised with your family take my word for it you will all love it, I’ve done 3 cruises with my kids and they are now 13 & 11 and we’ve all loved it.  The staff really do look after them!
