My non cruise holiday…….

As many of you will know I recently had my annual holiday.  For a change this year we (the wife) decided on a land based holiday rather than taking cruise.

We booked back in January and booked everything seperately, flights with Easyjet, hotel and transfers through the normal channels.

Obviously in August it can get very very busy in the main resorts so after an extensive search we decided on a little known area on the East Coast called Font De Sa Cala.  Its about 10 kms up the coast from Cala Millor.  A resort for mainly for the French or German.

We booked 2 weeks at the Beach Club Font De Sa Cala and have to say we were not disappointed. Many would be put off that its mainly French or German but thats doesnt put me off at all and have to say the hotel was faultless.  There were probably only 3 other British families but we were not treated any different, if anything I think were glad to chat to practice their English on us.  The weather was fantastic for the whole time we were there.

The hotel itself is a 4* magnificent complex covering 65,000 square metres surrounded by natural landscapes and beautiful gardens, overlooking a fine sandy beach with crystal-clear water. The beach has been awarded the blue flag by the European Community for the quality of its water.  It’s only a small cove but fantastic to go snorkelling.  Me and my eldest Rhys would go go off twice a day with our snorkels and spend half hour swimming with the fish.  Only problem was on the second day whilst snorkelling I got stung (or burnt as the locals say) by a jellyfish.  It did feel like a burn.  When we got back to beach I could see I’d been stung on my inner thigh.  Whilst leaving the beach we passed the life guards so I went over and straight away he knew and had a spray ready for me.  There had been a few that day, but it didnt put me off snorkelling again, I was just more cautious and on the look out.  No more issues after that thankfully!

The Beach Club has a tennis academy, and has 12 clay tennis courts. 4 of these were located in front of our room so of an evening before dinner at 7pm I’d sit on the balcony and watch some high quality tennis.

I’ve been to many hotels but have to say this is maintained to the highest standards,  every day cleaning, pruning, cutting grass etc.  Couldn’t fault it.

Also the food was as good as i’ve ever had on a cruise ship, so much choice and top quality.  Thats important for me!

If you feel the need to get out of the hotel, there is a stunning hilltop castle in the nearby town called Capdepera or just a couple of miles up the coast you can visit Cala Rajada.

All in all, this holiday was spot on to just relax with a nice hotel, nice food and some evening entertainment.

The Jones’s were happy.
