Classy Celebrity Edge……

As you may have seen if you follow me on Facebook I’ve recently been lucky enough to cruise onboard Celebrity’s newest ship the Celebrity Edge for a 2 night mini cruise from Southampton.  We didn’t actually go anyway, just sailed around the English channel very slowly!  The weather was perfect, not a cloud in the sky and if out of the breeze if felt hot resulting in a few red faces that evening.

Firstly the cabin, I was allocated a Concierge Infinite Balcony  stateroom on deck 12 and have to say it was immaculate.  Decent sized cabin with a sizeable bathroom, had the normal mod cons plus a 50″ tv on the wall opposite the bed.  I thought the Infinite balcony was a great idea. River cruise ships were the first to have these but now Celebrity is the first ocean cruise line to have them.  Basically its a floor to ceiling double glazed window where the top half drops down with the push of a button therefore giving you your balcony.  Great idea in my opinion as in colder weather you can keep shut and still enjoy the fantastic ocean view.  Of an evening there is a Blackout blind which drops (motorised) from the ceiling covering the whole of the window so it doesn’t affect your sleep.  Hopefully the images will give you an idea.  Take a look at my pics!

The way this ship is designed is superb, it seemed so easy navigating your way around and considering she isn’t a small ship getting from front to back took no time at all, none of this having to up or down a floor to go forward or back as you do on other ships. One of the main areas on the ship is the Grand Plaza, a 3 storey venue inspired by the lively piazzas of Italy. This is where you will find speciality restaurants, cafes and the the Martini Bar.  Great place for pre dinner drinks!

Then there’s the Magic Carpet (thats the orange thing on side of ship!) Reaching 13 storeys above sea level, the Magic Carpet is the world’s first cantilevered, floating platform, and the highlight of the exterior of our Edge Class ships. This spectacular space opens to several decks onboard and transforms into a new and exciting venue depending on where it’s positioned.

Now to my favourite the food!  On the first night I dined in the Blu Restaurant, this is the dining room you dine at if booked in Aqua Class.  i had always thought it was just healthy / low fat food but thats not the case. I had a lovely Filet Mignon and would certainly recommend it.   The second it was the Cyprus Restaurant with its Mediterranean style food and again couldn’t fault it at all.    There is a fantastic buffet if you want a more relaxed / casual evening offering all varieties of cuisine.

For the evenings you have the Theatre with its stage that juts out into the audience and in Eden, performance artists wander around the lounge, drawing people out of their comfort zone and into the show. The Rooftop Garden on the top deck is a lovely spot onboard with a stage for live bands and metallic trees for performers to perch in.

Then there’s the Resort Deck with an indoor and outdoor pool.  Edge Class boasts a 25 x 10 yard sized outdoor pool aswell as 2 outdoor Martini Glass Hot Tubs.  Also there seems to be more space and room for sunbeds.

All in all I loved this ship, 02 nights really didnt give me enough of a chance to properly experience the Edge but the little time I had I cannot fault it in anyway.

Simply, for me the EDGE is classy………and her sister APEX will be joining the fleet next year!
