Cardiff Beach and Port…..ready for summer hols!

Cardiff Bay with its big wheel!

Cardiff Bay with its big wheel!

It’s nearly the school holidays and in my house that means avoiding the word bored at all costs! I have 2 boys that are happy anywhere as long as they can swim! They would happily live in a pool! Cardiff Bay has given me the perfect answer as yet again for another year the Roald Dahl Plass next to the Wales Millennium Centre being transformed into an urban beach. Cardiff Bay Beach supported by Capital FM will include a giant child-friendly beach, a shallow water play area, live music and entertainment from local music and dance groups and traditional seaside rides and stalls.  It does stop them getting bored still costs me a small fortune!

For the more energetic amongst us, the beach will also have goalposts and volleyball nets for beach soccer and beach volleyball tournaments. And if beach sports aren’t your scene why not relax on a deckchair under the giant parasols.

Cardiff Council has brought in more than 300 tonnes of sand to create a beach in Cardiff Bay.

The city may look out onto the Bristol Channel but is a little short on miles of golden sands. My favourite thing about the beach ……..it’s free, the sand, the deck chairs, the pool……..all free, a word I don’t hear enough during the six weeks holidays!   This year hopefully it’ll be a little easier as we jet off to Fort Lauderdale in August for a 04 night stay before boarding the Caribbean Princess for a week’s cruise to Mexico and the Caribbean and then ending with a 02 night stay in Philadelphia.  My wife has always wanted to visit ‘Philly’ as she loves the Rocky films and they were all filmed in ‘Philly’.

My boys do prefer the real beach, and we’ve got some fab ones near me also as they like to take their surfboards and hit the waves with me, but its nice to have something different so close to home. It’s a shame that more cruise ships can’t get into the bay, its stunning down there and Cardiff is an amazing city for tourists, the Port of Cardiff is suitable for small to medium size cruise ships only. The Silver Spirit with Silversea and The Marco Polo have both visited the bay in the past. It’s a pity we can’t get more ships to visit but there are rumours in the next few years more cruiselines are going to include Cardiff for the US market.

Silver Spirit in the Caribbean not Cardiff

Silver Spirit came to Cardiff a few years ago

So for my day off this week I will be grabbing my sunglasses and sun cream or umbrella looking at the forecast for summer in the city in Cardiff Bay.

May the good weather continue, don’t worry about the yellow grass!!

As always give me a call if you I can help and look after yourselves.
