Hannah's Harbours

Let’s Get This Party Started!

"Havana, A!uba - February 17, 2013: Colourful carnival group with young men and women on stilts passing through the streets of Havana, here they are dancing at the Plaza de Armas. Every day a group of performers take the streets of Old Havana. Dressed in colorful costumes, they dance to the contagious rhythm of the conga. On their daily route, these colorful street performers stir the city into action. The actual conga show lasts barely minutes, but some people wait for it all day. Trumpets and drums arouse locals and visitors from the drowsiness caused by the relentless sun."

It has been a busy few months here at Cruise as it always is at the start of the year, lots of great deals from the cruise lines always keep us busy with bookings as they try to tempt people to book their holidays for the year.

Cruise line events are always very thin on the ground around this time too, it is during the Summer months that everything tends to happen. Events, ship visits, ‘FAM’ trips which help us to familiarize ourselves with the ships so that we can pass on our knowledge to clients.

This years proceedings kicks off tomorrow night with a mystery party laid on by P&O and Cunard. It’s all very exciting even though we know very little about the event – even the location is being kept under wraps until we actually arrive.

About 350 agents, myself included, are lucky enough to have won a ticket to the event and we are all busy trying to guess where exactly we are going. Now the event is reasonably local to where I live in the Midlands so I have a hunch where the event might be. All we have been told is that we need to arrive at the Severn Valley Railway Station between 16.30 and 17.30 tomorrow and we will be bused to the location which is about 15 minutes away. We have been asked to wear clothes fit for a party but with ‘comfortable footwear for walking around the venue’ – plot thickens!

We will be having dinner, and a few drinks no doubt, and the entertainment is being provided by a band called The Cuban Brothers which all sounds great fun, they act is comedy and music so no doubt we will all be dancing the night away.

If I had to make a guess, I would think that the venue might be West Midlands Safari Park as they have a large venue there and there is also a small funfair so could that be the reason we need to wear comfortable footwear. Goodness, a few cocktails and a rollercoaster might not be a good combination!

Anyway, I am very much looking forward to kicking the Summer off in style tomorrow night and will let you know all about it next time. I shall do my best to take plenty of photos too.

Until then, happy cruising folks!
