Gordon's Your Cruising Tonic

Thomson Majesty, here we come.

Well, having booked lots of cruises for my customers throughout the year, I have finally booked our summer holiday on the Thomson Majesty.

We have not sailed on this ship before, but I will give you a detailed report when I return.

Launched in 1992, the vessel was built as ms Royal Majesty, and since 2012 operated under long-term charter to the biggest tour operator in UK, Thomson Holidays.

Following delivery, Royal Majesty set on her maiden voyage, a transatlantic crossing from Southampton to New York, on July 7, 1992. She was officially christened, in New York City on July 21, 1992, by Liza Minnelli.

MS Thomson Majesty is a cruise ship currently owned by Louis Cruises, and will be leaving the Thomson family in November, to join the Celestyal cruises fleet.

Initially, the company entered cruise market in 1973, offering low-price voyages around Europe with ships from Holland America Line and Louis Cruise. Due to the rising fuel costs, in 1976 it was terminated. Thomson Cruises restarted the cruise line in 1995 and nowadays holds 1% market share of worldwide cruise industry. Thomson Cruises has its own unique place in the British cruise market as cruise division of the largest tour operator and travel agency in Britain. After its foundation in 1965, the company soon established dominant position in the British tour market with own airlines and travel agencies.

Thomson Majesty serves up a master class in elegance. This ship is all about classically-styled bars and lounges made for after-dinner tipples, and a sumptuous spa and beauty salon with a menu of his ‘n’ hers treatments. You’ve got the pick of 5 restaurants, too, plus a great mix of live entertainment from their talented musicians and UK guest acts.

You’ll never be short of great dining options on board the Thomson Majesty. Each of the restaurants has a personality of its own. From multi-course dinners with full waiter service to help-yourself buffets in a relaxed setting, they`ve left no stone unturned when it comes to catering for all tastes. For something even fancier, bring your invitation along to our popular Captain’s Gala Reception or book a table at the ship’s elegant à la carte restaurant.
