The big news from Virgin Voyages this week is the announcement of the captain of their 1st ship, Scarlet Lady.
The honour goes to Canadian woman Wendy Williams. Williams has more than 28 years of experience working on ships at sea, including more than a decade as a deckhand in commercial fishing off the western coast of Canada and as a ferryboat captain. She has also spent 15 years in various roles on the bridge of cruise mega ships and new her position with Virgin Voyages will be her first promotion to the rank of master of a cruise ship.
Captain Wendy Williams isn’t the only female hire in a leadership position. Nearly a dozen other female officers have been hired as well, including Jill Anderson as hotel director, Christin Wenge as safety officer, Lindsay Kerber as an environmental officer, and other experienced female engineers as well as second and third officers.
Scarlet Lady will be launched on the 1st of April 2020 and will sail four or five-night Caribbean cruises calling at Mexico and the Dominican Republic as well as Virgin`s private beach club in the Bahamas. Scarlet Lady will be the first of four ships in the new Virgin Voyages fleet and is expected to be able to host over 2,700 passengers and 1,150 crew members.
This amazing adult only vessel is named after the first of Richard Branson’s airliners when he started that part of his successful business.
One unique selling point with this amazing ship is Squid Ink, the first ever Tatoo Parlour at sea, where you can get a lasting memory of your cruise.
