Symphony of the Seas – Is bigger always better?

Royal Caribbean will launch their latest addition, Symphony of the Seas, next spring, making it officially the “largest ship in the world”.

She will become the 4th member of the Oasis class family,  initially sailing around the Mediterranean from Barcelona in summer 2018, before heading to Miami where she’ll join her three sister ships sailing the Caribbean all year round. Symphony will sail to the new Port Miami Terminal A by October.

The pioneering port has already been heralded the United State’s “most innovative cruise facility”. Port Miami has been dubbed the ‘Crown of Miami’ based on its view from the water as a towering crown-shaped terminal.

Symphony of the Seas will set sail around the Caribbean after that, with itineraries ranging from November 2018 to April 2019.

The innovative Symphony of the Seas will be packed full of exciting onboard activities, entertainment and dining choices as well as revolutionary new firsts at sea guaranteed to make your cruise holiday truly extraordinary.

Set to be delivered in April 2018, Symphony of the Seas will span 1,188ft in length, stretching 215ft wide. Covering a total of 16 decks, the giant ship will weigh 230,000 gross tonnes. That’s almost 3,000 more than the current record for world’s largest ship, held by Harmony of the Sea’s, also in the Royal Caribbean fleet.

Symphony will offer guests seven distinct neighborhoods, like the tree-lined Central Park and the luxury shop-filled Royal Promenade, creating unique areas for travelers to enjoy and explore. For adrenaline-packed adventure, Symphony also will have the 10 storey, Ultimate Abyss, the tallest slide at sea; a trio of waterslides; and Splashaway Bay kids waterpark. In addition, a second pool will be added to the Solarium on deck 15, meaning even more space for adults to kick back and relax.

Also on board, as well as the familiar 7 neighbourhood themes that have proven popular with Royal Caribbean guests in the past, there will also be some standout features to separate the giant ship from any that have come before it. But the company is remaining tight-lipped about these unique features until closer to the vessel’s launch date next year.

What are your thoughts about these mega ships? They seem to get bigger & bigger with so much on board, is that what you like? Or do you love the smaller, more intimate ships?

I would love to hear your opinions.
