Marella cruises, the exciting new chapter

The interesting news from the Marella camp is that their “new” ship, Explorer 2, will be exclusively Adult Only and All Inclusive, as they hope to attract a younger clientele.

As they ready themselves to launch for summer 2019, on sale from 5th April, the plans all sound exciting. News ports of call, new itineraries, new ships, and All Inclusive across the full fleet.

Following an extensive refit, the “Golden Era” (Celebrity Century as was), will join the growing Marella fleet in 2019.

Explorer 2 will feature new cabin types, including the 102 metres squared Royal Suite where occupants will be able to use a separate bedroom, dressing room, dining area and a whirlpool bath. Also over 40% of the cabins will have balconies.

The decision to offer an adult-only ship, the 1st exclusive one of the fleet, was made after the popularity of adult-only sailings from Dubrovnik and the Asia itineraries for winter 2018.

Cities and Ice, Idyllic Italia and Secrets of the Mediterranean, as well as seven new ports of call, will be included in the 11 new itineraries across the fleet for summer `19. Some of the ports of call featured for the first time include Skagen in Denmark, Castellon in Spain, Alta in Norway and and Santa Margherita in Italy.

Last month, Tui Cruises announced plans to expand its fleet in to serve the German market, including in 2023 an additional new build vessel. This will increase the over all cruise fleet to 18 ships.

As Thomson was my wife and I`s favourite cruise line, it will be interesting to see how these new plans affect life on board their ships. What attracted us and everyone else was the excellent service, fabulous entertainment, delicious food and that “small ship” friendliness. I really do hope that by increasing the size of the fleet/ships they do not lose this charm.
