Atlantic Adventure

On the 27th of October, my wife & I will be joining the Marella Explorer to do our first ever transatlantic cruise.

The Marella Explorer is the latest addition to their fleet, joining in Summer 2018. She was launched in 1996 as the Celebrity Galaxy before transferring to the TUI German fleet in May 2009 and being renamed Mein Schiff 1.

Boasting a mouthwatering 10 restaurants, with the same amount of bars, then there will certainly be something for everyone, no matter your tastes. “There are fleet favourites like Snack Shack and Kora La, plus brand new spaces like The Dining Club for foodies and a swanky bar, club and casino. The highlights don’t stop at food and drink, though. There’s also an indoor cinema, a Sports & Family Deck and a Champneys spa, where you can sign up for everything from body-balancing acupuncture and slimming treatments to body wraps and facials.”

Our itinerary, Atlantic Adventure, is a 15 night, adult only, All Inclusive journey from Majorca to Barbados. Along the way, we have a few exciting stops, none of which we have visited before.

Cartagena – Guarded by two cliff-top fortresses, this is the gateway to Murcia, the regional capital city. Here you can find its beautiful cathedral. Also worth viewing is the famous La Manga Strip, a strip of land which separates the Mediterranean Sea from Mar Menor, Europe’s largest lagoon.

Malaga – Next port of call is Malaga, famous for its 16th-century cathedral, La Manquita. You are also only a short drive from Granada, with its Arabian-style Alhambra Palace, perched on a hilltop, surrounded by the Sierra Nevada Mountains. You can also visit the spectacular caves in the old town of Nerja.

Cadiz – A great introduction to Spain. From medieval walls to designer boutiques, a city where old meets new. Visit the stunning Cathedral de Cadiz, or pop along to Seville, famed for oranges & Christopher Columbus`s tomb.

Funchal – This is the capital of the Portuguese island of Madeira, a collection of cobbled streets, Botanical Gardens, museums, cafés & restaurants and a beautiful cathedral. One of the most popular tourist attractions is the cable car up to the mountain village of Monte the back down the cobbles in a wicker toboggan.

Antigua – Its all about the beaches, the shopping, the snorkelling and the food.

St Lucia – Looking forward to the Zip Line Canopy Tour, followed by tracking down a bargain at the local market. Castries is where we stop, set in the shadow of the mountainous skyline.

Grenada – Also known as “Spice Island”, Grenada is the place to stroll around one of the prettiest harbours in the Caribbean. For the more adventurous, head to the Grand Etang National Park, take in the lake in a volcanic crater & spot the wildlife in the rainforest.

Then we arrive into Barbados before flying home again. I will update you more when I get back.
