Well one of my favourite food days is here, and whether you prefer to have the traditional Lemon juice & Sugar or my favourite of Nutella with your pancakes on Shrove Tuesday, did you know the connection to today for the Rio Carnival ?
Today – Tuesday 13th February is Pancake Day as we know it in the UK, great that it is just the day before Valentine’s day so double chocolate dose this week !!.. Shrove Tuesday – to use it’s official name – is always the day that precedes Ash Wednesday and is a changeable date which falls 47 days before Easter, so generally February or early March. Supermarkets and TV adverts will always remind us of the jif lemon day so no need to worry..
In the USA they call Shrove Tuesday Fat Tuesday – Mardi Gras, again to symbolise using up the fatty foods before lent fasting. You may well think that all of this has absolutely no relevance to cruising, however 2 great events do take place culminating today the first of which is the Rio Carnival, in Rio de Janeiro Brazil and secondly the Mardi Gras Carnival season in New Orleans… both of these significant calendar events can be combined with an amazing cruise and our Tailor Made collection has some amazing itineraries already out for next year… so whilst you are having your pancakes this evening if you would like to experience any of these other associated traditions then please let me know… here are a couple of my favourite Itineraries.
