There has been a lot of news and publicity recently regarding the plans that a replica of the ill fated Titanic is going to be built in a shipyard in China. The ship is scheduled for its first sailing which will complete the voyage in which Titanic was meant to complete from Southampton across to New York in 2016 and already has an interest of around 40,000 wanting to register for the trip, even though prices are yet to be released!
I’m in 2 minds about the whole scenario, it sounds very interesting and would be great to watch and see the ship, a tour would be fantastic to get a real insight into what the Titanic was like but I’m not sure whether I would actually want to sail onboard, its such a sad story of what happened that night, we’ve all watched the film I’m sure and felt the heartache. Of course there are many people who had family and ancestors on board the ill fated voyage some again are welcoming the idea of Titanic 2, others again aren’t so convinced.
The man behind this project is Clive Palmer who promises ‘A ship where dreams will come true ‘ , A class above any ship in the world ‘ and to ‘Re build a legend’. Mr Palmer is an Australian billionaire , as the Titanic 2 is a replica of the original she will also have the original, first second and third class’s and Mr Palmer has insisted he will travel in third class for the experience. The only differences and enhancements to facilities will be an on-board hospital, helicopter pad, and of course a modern quota of lifeboats also.
Only time will tell how and what the Titanic 2 will be like, I will wait in anticipation!
