Emma On Cruise

The Older of the Hurtigruten Clan

Whilst out in Tromso, Norway on my fantastic Hurtigruten trip we also had the opportunity to visit Hurtigrutens oldest ship, the MS Lofoten.
She looks very much like a working ship, rather than having a cruise ship look and shes definitely showing her age!
She has many many followers who only want to sail on her, with her small intimate feel, and ‘old’ ways whilst on board.
Here’s a little bit of information about her,

She was built in 1964 on Oslo
She carries 400 passengers
Unlike many of the other Hurtigruten ships she has no car spaces
Tonnage 2621
She was last re fitted in 2004

Here are a few pictures;

The biggest downside to the Lofoten is that her cabins do not feature WC or Showers!
meaning of course that there are shared showers and WC for the cabins.
Personally this isn’t for my taste but many of her following passengers are fine with this concept!

I would always recommend to take sure you do your research on which Hurtigruten ship you are looking to travel on, as you don’t want to have a shock on arrival!
