Emily's Cruise Essentials

So what will £593 million buy you?

I was recently reading an  article on the cost of building a cruise ship- and believe me they do not come cheap. I do find it fascinating seeing photos on how ships are transformed from an empty shell to the wonders of the end result. So how much do we think they average at? I knew it wasn’t going to be cheap but not anything near what they actually cost. For example the Queen Mary has 17 decks and can accommodate up to 2260 passengers and cost a mere $880,000,000 to build, in British Pounds it still looks a lot at £593 million. I find that incredible. It got me thinking how many sailings would she have to do to make a profit? Unfortunatley I haven’t got the answer but it must be an incredible amount. With each cruise company trying to out do themselves with each ship they produce the costs are rising and rising. So how can they sell the for such value for money baffles me. Anthem of the Seas cost £670 million to build  and with this she brought £50 million profit boost into Southampton. These are just crazy figures. Anthem of the Seas will attract  new groups of people building the cruise market. It is said that 1.7 million Britons take a cruise holiday each year. It really is an changing world, long gone are the days where people think cruising is too formal or for a certain age group. Each company offering different promotions with anything from all inclusive drinks packages to chauffeur driven pick ups from home, the cruise market is tapping to a wide range of holiday makers.

Watch this space for the next launch, I wonder what the next vessel will have to wow us.
