Dee of the Seas

Indy, My Second Home

We have been sailing on this ship Independence of the Seas, since she launched in 2008 and have barely missed a year. We love sailing out of Southampton, no airport hassle and no luggage restrictions. Traffic permitting from our door to being on the ship and in the Windjammer Cafe, about 3 hours. When we first travelled on her in a group of 9, the youngest was 4 and the oldest 65 and as of now that youngest is now 13 and the oldest 74, and there is still appeal for all of us.
P1000382The ship has a feature unique to Royal Caribbean and her sister ships along with ships in the Voyager class and that is the Royal Promenade, which runs through the centre of the ship and is lined with shops, restaurants and bars and is a lovely social spot especially when the ship is sailing and the shops are open along with the little market stalls that come out. Royal Promenade also hosts the fun party nights on board, 70’s Party and Rock Britannia, both great fun nights.

Many a good night spent along here in the Dog and Badger pub and even though the ship is so big, it doesn’t feel impersonal. The staff recognise us from year to year and become friends.  Then you have the ice rink with professional ice dance performances and when not rehearsing or performing is open for guests to practice their skills. For thrill seekers you have the Flowrider, a surf simulator, not for the faint hearted, and for something a bit more sedate, a crazy golf course.

Dining options on board are numerous, from the main restaurants, to speciality smaller restaurants for a moderate cover charge, all day buffet restaurant as well as a pizzeria and sandwich shop, or room service if you are feeling lazy.

There are so many good things about this ship I could go on and on, but feel free to ask any questions.
