Unless you have been oblivious to the cruise news of the last few months, you may not know that P&O are set to launch their new mega-ship in 2020.
On Thursday 24th May 2018, P&O kept us all waiting to announce the new name after over 30,000 people sent name suggestions in on what their new lady should be called.
An in a very different way to other ship name reveals, they had the help of TV’s very own Stephen Mulhern to help reveal the name all with a bit of magic…
So What do you all think of the name? P&O Iona, it certainly is different from the rest of the fleet.
Iona is an Island in Scotland and Paul Ludlow, Senior Vice President of P&O Cruises explains that the beautiful island which you can see the sea from every advantage is a true reflection of what this new ship will bring.
DESIGNED FOR A NEW GENERATION OF CRUISING
Let me tell you as much as I can about Iona and what she will bring to P&O:
- Iona will be the largest P&O ship in the UK, arriving in 2020
- She will exceed 180,000 gross tons
- Iona will accommodate approximately 5,200 guests
- Iona will be P&O’s most environmentally efficient ship yet
- She will have an uninterrupted half-mile promenade deck
- A major new entertainment hub called the Dome
- Iona will have 15 places to eat and 10 places to enjoy a drink and see the sea
- 13 entertainment venues from the theatre to adult only venues
- She will be on sale in autumn 2018
P&O is set to reveal more information bit by bit as time goes on, just giving little snippets of details to keep us all guessing. Similar to when Britannia was revealed. So keep a watch on my Facebook page too to see further reveals on P&O Iona…
