A Royal Celebration for Saga

It’s a very exciting time for Saga Cruises as the Spirit of Discovery joins their fleet, the ship is the first ever new build cruise ship for the cruise line and will be followed in Summer 2020 by another new ship – Spirit of Adventure. Both ships can accommodate 999 passengers and you won’t find any inside or outside cabins here as all come with a balcony! The ship will be based in the UK offering no fly cruises from Dover & Southampton

Spirit of Discovery will arrive in Dover on Friday 5th July where 500 guests will join HRH the Duchess of Cornwall for a garden party. Celebrity chef Kevin Woodford will prepare an afternoon tea for the guests and the quayside at the Port of Dover will be transformed into a garden with grass, bunting, foliage and parasols. Guests will be served Spirit of Discovery sparking wine, specially blended by Kent vineyard Hush Heath and Anno Kent Gin.

There will also be a two metre long cake replica of the ship, I can’t wait to see pictures of that! The Bishop of Dover will bless the cruise ship before the Duchess of Cornwall christens it with a bottle of the Spirit of Discovery sparkling wine – rather fitting.

This is a great opportunity for Dover & Saga to shine, I was born and raised in the town so I’m delighted to see the port decorated and excited for the naming ceremony of Spirit of Discovery! I made my first Saga booking last month for a Baltics cruise on this ship and can’t wait to get some feedback from the guests. Several of my colleagues will also be sailing on a special 2 night travel agent departure next week so keep an eye out for pictures, videos & reviews!

The Living Room – this is the place to have a coffee, go shopping or relax with a cocktail. It will also serve gelato, fresh pastries and homemade cakes.

Spirit of Discovery boasts a wide variety of restaurants from the grand dining room, to Oriental and seafood eateries too. With cuisines from all over the world, they will be a match for London’s best restaurants. Best of all, you can eat whenever and where you like.
