Internet at sea…

Why is it all or most of us can’t go a few days without trying to check our internet, whether this is by your Smart phone or internet café? Remember a time when cruising truly meant leaving the world and your troubles behind and just enjoying your time away.

But times have changed and with the mixed clientele that now cruise results in most of us checking e-mails, Facebook and phone network charges using your data. And this can this be very costly and slow, which is very frustrating.

So why do we do it? In this day in age with Smart phones being so widely used it becomes apparent that we don’t realise half the time that we are using them. It becomes second nature to use your Smart phone to check e-mails, social media sites, shop and check bills.

So could Cruise lines be doing more to speed the service up and be more cost effective? As you can imagine being at sea is completely different to being on land and using free Wi-Fi or broadband. Being at sea requires the use of a satellite which incurs millions of dollars to be paid by the Cruise Line. So for such a simple thing we take for granted at home may not be so simple at sea! Maybe in time this is something Cruise lines will take into consideration and invest to regenerate a much faster and shall we say cheaper service that everyone can afford on-board their cruise.
