Royal Caribbean last week announced a $165 million pound refurbishment of Allure of the Seas in Barcelona next spring, with the tallest waterslide at sea.,Ultimate Abyss, and all the Pool deck re-imagined with new duelling waterslides, the Perfect Storm ,and extended childrens Aquapark with drench buckets and much more watery fun.her sister ship, Oasis of the Seas cost $1.4 billion to build so it does make sense to maybe re-imagine Allure of the Seas than just build another one.

So which of your favourite ships are in for a makeover ? Cruise companies can be reticent around revealing their plans but we found these plans already in place.

Silversea cruises are actually losing some cabin numbers by refurbishing,the Silver Wind is being converted with a new ice strengthened hull and 40 less cabins with lots  of amenities being upgraded. Silver Shadow is being refurbished this year with a complete overhaul of the suites to the flagship standard.

Royal Caribbean Oasis of the Seas is in dry dock this  November for 63 days with the debut of a new restaurant, the Portside Barbecue,a new Karaoke venue and a Perfect Storm and Ultimate Abyss range of thrilling waterslides.

Voyager of the Seas returns in October with a few 3-5 night Asian sailings and then down to Sydney, with a new look and a Perfect Storm and a Laser Tag zone added.

Freedom of the Seas is having an extended renovation as sailings for Feb 20 have been changed as the ship is having an extended refurbishment under the Royal Amplification project.

The Amplification project will also mean upgrades for Liberty in 2021,Explorer in 2020,and Adventure in 2021.

Princess Cruises ship,,Golden Princess is re-locating to P&O Australia and even getting a new name ,the Pacific Adventure in 2020 after a massive makeover.The 2,600-passenger ship will also introduce the Ocean Medallion technology to the Australian market.

Oceania ship Regatta is being madeover in September 2019 with a $100 million revamp of the whole fleet.Each vessel – Insignia, Sirena, Regatta and Nautica – will be given 342 new designer suites and staterooms plus restaurants, lounges and bars will be kitted-out with new décor.

Celebrity have a massive plan to refurbish and re-enhance. all part of the Celebrity revolution.All Solstice class ships are being brought up to the standard of the Celebrity Edge, The Silhouette goes into dry dock in January 2020,the Eclipse on the 01st April 2020.the Constellation in May 2020, the Infinity in November 2020.the Solstice in October 2021 and the Reflection in February 2023.

Norwegian Cruise lines have just refurbished the Getaway with a complete makeover and bow to stern renovations. Now, it’s ready to re-join the fleet and offers cruises to The Caribbean, Bahamas & Florida, and Europe, while showing off her new looks.A full makeover of the fleet will continue to bring them up to the standards of the Breakaway Plus ships.

Cunard lines have announced refits of all current ships before the arrival of the new ship in 2022.The ship is being built in Italy and has yet to be named.                                                    Queen Mary 2 is being refurbished In 2020,Queen Victoria in 2021 and Queen Elizabeth in 2022

So old and past it does not cut it in the cruise world -just spend a few hundred million dollars !
