Attending My First Zero Waste Wedding

A few weeks ago I attended the lovely wedding of my good friends Kate & Pete but this was a wedding with a twist.

Instead of spending thousands of pounds on a traditional wedding Kate & Pete decided they wanted to host a zero waste wedding which had as little environmental impact as possible and also supported local businesses. This was no surprise to any of us, as this is a way of life they have been living for the last few years and last year they opened Taunton’s very first zero waste shop Lesser Litter, which has been a huge hit in the town.

The wedding was held at Taunton Registry office and Pete even walked there after opening the shop in the morning. Lunch was held at a small independent pizzeria and the evening  reception was at their home with close family and friends. The food was amazing, a vegan feast prepared by The Planet Cafe and they bought 20 litre polypins of cider from local brewery Sheppy’s cider to reduce waste

Kate wore her favourite yellow dress. Her bouquet was made of locally grown wild flowers and she even made her own make up! There wedding rings were passed down from family which was a lovely touch.

In true Kate and Pete style and breaking tradition Pete took Kate’s name so they are now Mr and Mrs Robertson. Pete’s surname was Hope and this is the name they will be giving to there first child a little girl, baby Hope Robertson due in Aug.

I love the passion they both have for zero waste and it’s really made me think about and change the way I’m living my life. Even the smallest changes can make a big difference. Their becoming quite the local celebrities and will be appearing on ITV West Country at 18:00 this evening.
