Cunard announce a 4th ship to join the Queens.

Cunard have today announced they have ordered a 4th Queen to join the fleet!! She will be the 1st new ship to join the fleet in 12 years since the Queen Elizabeth was ordered.

Early details are quite limited, however 1 thing is quite refreshing. She will be 113,000 tonnes and carrying 3,000 passengers she is not a mega ship like everything else being build seems to be these days.

The new Queen will launch in 2022 and I have no doubt there will be a rather large queue to be once of the first to board her. New ships always generate a huge amount of interest with loyal cruisers of the brand probably eager to sample a new ship for the first time in over a decade!

It will be the first time since 1998 that Cunard have had 4 ships in their fleet too, something that could be rather interesting come the World Cruise season.

The new Queen had been trusted to Italian ship builders, Fincantieri and the launch is set to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the launch of the infamous Queen Elizabeth II.

The decision to increase the fleet capacity might have something to do with the fact the cruise giant had over 1 million people turn out for their 175 year anniversary back in 2015. That is a lot of potential cruisers!!

The announcement follows the fact that Cunard have spent over £120 million on the recent refurbishment of 2 of the current fleet, Queen Mary II and the Queen Victoria.

What do you think of the news? About time, or do you like their only being 3 Queens?
