Its a Mystery Cruise Nightmare

Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, England - June 8, 2016: Signs at the entrance to Great Yarmouth’s Britannia Pier, advertising attractions and shows to be held in the theatre at the end of the pier during the summer season. People stand nearby or sit and watch the world go by, while others buy fast food from a kiosk.

Have you ever seen the ‘offer’ of a Mystery Cruise? So, basically you get to know the date of travel, where it’s sailing from and the duration. The itinerary is the Mystery. So, you could go anywhere, like literally anywhere? How does that sound? A little bit exciting, right?

The Balmoral recently headed off on a mystery 11-night cruise from Newcastle. Perhaps it might end up south in Lovely Lisbon, Portugal. Or Head North to Gorgeous Geiranger in Norway.

Nah this Mystery Cruise on the Balmoral went to good old Great Yarmouth! No offense to Great Yarmouth I remembers going as a kid but it’s not somewhere I would hope for as a port of call on a cruise! Sadly, for a lot of customers, it wasn’t what they dreamt of too.

Apparently, it was sold as ‘undiscovered Gems’ and a ‘holiday to remember’

Reports are stating that customers staged a ‘mutiny’ onboard the ship in rage. Obviously, disappointed. More, so if you lived in Great Yarmouth. Traveling to Newcastle to find yourself back home the next day?! I would be slightly annoyed too.

Of course, the ship went to other ports of call such as Dunkirk, Antwerp and then to Ijmuiden in Holland. This port was apparently described as  ‘Council Estate’. A lot of port area are not the most beautiful, I get that. Ijmuiden is around 40 minutes from the interesting city of Amsterdam.

Fred Olsen have of course made a statement

“As over 50 percent of our guests cruise with us time and time again, a Mystery Cruise offers the chance to visit somewhere new.

“It is a shame that a minority feel this cruise has not met expectations. However, we have also received a number of positive comments.

“We hope our guests will continue to get into the spirit of the cruise and are looking forward to those destinations that they have not yet visited.”

So would you do a mystery cruise, if it was a great deal?

Keep Cruising,

Bonnie x
