Fred Olsen Brabant – Day 3

Our 3rd day on the Fred Olsen River Cruise was in Strasbourg.  Another new destination to add to my list as never been here before.

It would have been a lot nicer if it hadn’t rained all day but can’t help the weather even in August.
Strasbourg is a very pretty little place with lovely little shopping streets with plenty of shops & cafes.

Strasbourg is the capital city of the Grand Est region, formerly Alsace, in northeastern France. It’s also the formal seat of the European Parliament and sits near the German border, with culture and architecture blending German and French influences. Its Gothic Cathédrale Notre-Dame features daily shows from its astronomical clock and sweeping views of the Rhine River from partway up its 142m spire.

We went on an excursion which started by coach to the centre then followed with a walking tour, we went through the market where you could buy all sorts but especially cheese, we just tried the free samples which were very delicious.

The Cathedral was very impressive and we spent some time here, I lit a candle for my mum as she is in a care home & my family who have passed over the years.

After the guided tour we had some free time to wander around the town, we did a bit of souvenir shopping, I needed to find a pack of playing cards as my husband Adam collects them and I try to get from everywhere I go.  I succeded so then we headed for a coffee and to dry off a bit before the walk back to the coach.

This was my favourite spot down by the river – so pretty even in the rain.

After our coffee, it was time to head back to the meeting point by the Catherdral and head back to the coach, on the way the heavens opened and we got drenched.

Once back on the ship we dried off and changed then went for lunch.  The rain didn’t stop all day so we did a tour of the ship and took lots of pictures.  Then back to the cabin for a couple of hours rest before dinner.

I would love to go back to Strasbourg and spend longer there as it is such a beautiful place, just hope it doesn’t rain next time.
