A Day with Holland America!

Last week on Tuesday I travelled to Southampton to do a little visit on the Holland America Koningsdam cruise ship.  There were 5 of us altogether, 3 in my car and we met the others at the port.

Holland America ships don’t come to the UK that often so were very lucky to get this opportunity.

We left Coventry at 6.30am as had to meet at 9.30am and it wasn’t the best journey as the traffic was horrendous as 3 cruise ships in, Tui Mein Shiff, P&O Ventura & Holland America Koningsdam, also the Boat Show was on so lots of people trying to get to the port.  We made it eventually just before 10.00am.

We got our visitors passes and boarded the ship.  She is a beautiful ship and the newest ship in the fleet so far but they have another new one coming soon – Nieuw Statendam.

A few facts about the Koningsdam:-

Pinnacle Class ship
2650 passengers
1036 crew members
13 decks
99,500 tonnes
975 feet long
2 outdoor pools (one has a retractable roof)
12 restaurants & cafe’s
7 entertainment venues
7 bars/lounges

We had a short time to look around the ship and saw a few of the cabins, the ship was mid cruise so most cabins were occupied but we managed to see an inside as crew were making the room up so we had a sneak peek, we saw outside cabins for 2 and also a family outside for 4, this I was impressed with as it had 1 bathroom with bath & shower over, toilet etc then a separate walk-in shower which was quite spacious so ideal for 4 sharing.  One double bed and a double sofa bed & an upper Pullman bed.  It was quite spacious. The cabin was number 1160, here are some photos:-

The outside twin was slightly smaller with one bathroom but spacious enough for 2.  The cabins are a bit bigger than other ships I’ve seen.

The inside cabin was also lovely and spacious too.

The lovely steward who let us look at the inside – the staff were amazing even though we were only on for a few hours.

After looking around the upper decks and the bars and restaurants we headed for lunch which was 4 courses and absolutely lovely, we had a set menu for us as guests for the day. The food was fantastic so can imagine it would be great every day on your cruise.

The wine was for effect as I was driving so didn’t drink all of it, just a few sips.

After lunch, we had a presentation from the team at Holland America and then it was time to disembark the ship.  I could quite easily have stayed on for longer as didn’t get to see all of the ship.

A few more pics of what we saw.
