On the Yangtze…..

Whilst on our tour in China we had a 3 night River Cruise down the Yangtze – it was fantastic!

The tour was 12 days in total so after seeing Beijing, Pingyao, Xian & Chengdu we headed off to Chongquin to board the MS Kararina which is one of Victoria Cruises ships.

Victoria’s ships are specially designed to navigate the Yangtze River, and are all officially rated five stars by the China National Tourism Administration (its highest rating). Enjoy all the comfort and elegance of river cruising: attentive and professional staff, delicious onboard meals and spectacular scenery from every stateroom and public area.

All rooms have a balcony even the lead in Superior rooms which is what we had, very nice and spacious enough for 3 or 4 nights. The beds were very comfortable.

On arrival at Chongquin there is porterage for 1 suitcase per person, hand luggage must be taken onboard yourself – hence why we recommend a backpack as so much easier.  There are almost 100 steps to get down to the ship and the pontoons used to board can be a bit wobbly so we would advise not suitable for anyone with severe walking difficulties or anyone in wheelchair or scooter.  The porterage was men with large bamboo sticks and tied a suitcase to each side – very impressive.

We were pretty tired after an all go trip so was looking forward to getting onboard and relaxing, which we did in style & they sold white wine – one happy lady!!

There are 2 excursions included in your River cruise along with breakfast, lunch & dinner but be warned breakfast is set to a time so don’t miss it. The food was OK but not to ocean cruise standards.

The excursions were fantastic – we did all of them including the 2 optional ones which you have to pay for but not much and very enjoyable.  Just be prepared for a lot of walking and lots of steps.

I will cover the trips in my next blog.

Here are a few pictures to keep you entertained until you get more……
