Last weekend I enjoyed a lovely weekend on P&O Ventura and it was especially good as it was free!. I had accumulated enough points from P&O bookings to book a Balcony Cabin for my husband and I on the 3 night cruise visting Cherbourg and Le Havre. I had a group of friends travelling on the cruise that we normally travel with every 2 years on a mini cruise and we werent going with them this year as we have had a lot on holiday wise. As i had the chance of this we thought we would suprise them. We arrived at Southampton around 12pm, as we had stayed with a friend in Dorset overnight ,so only had a 40 minute journey in the morning. We wanted to get onboard before they arrived so they wouldnt see us and we managed to stay out of the way until after the muster drill.  Embarkation was really quick and we didnt even have to sit with our little coloured card and wait to be called we just walked straight to check in then got onboard. We eventaully made ourselves known to them at sailaway and they were really pleased to see us (just as well)

We had a balcony cabin on Riviera deck at the front of the ship which was ideal for getting up onto the deck as we only had 1 flight of stairs to climb. We were on 8.30 dining and had a table for 6 and were joined by 2 lovely couples for dinner although one couple did say they were going to the Epicurian Restaurant the following night and said they would be back for the last evening, but never appeared again!. The food was good as usual and the menu was different from the cruise we were on in December for New Year, which was nice to see, as they do tend to be a bit repetitive. After dinner we went to the theatre to watch the show which was a trio called the “Uptowns” these  were 3 lads who took you on a musical journey through the 50’s and 60’s featuring icons of the times like Neil Sedaka, Elvis Presley, Tom Jones and many more. They were very good and again made a change to see something different.

The folowing night was formal night and we went to the theatre again after diiner to see the new show “Astonishing”which was the magic and illusion show that was created for P&O by Stephen Mulhern and Jonathan Wilkes. This was really enjoyable and did leave you thinking “How did they do that”.  Again it was nice to see soething different as the shows can be a bit repetive too. After this we also managed to see the late night comedy spot with Paul Eastwood which was for adults only at 11.45.

The last night we decided to have a quiet one and just joined out friends  in the Exchange for a few drinks before having an early night as it was back home and straight back to work on the Tuesday afternoon. No rest for the wicked as they say.

Ill come back next time to let you know about the great day we had in Cherbourg on a Nuclear Submarine!
