Mighty Ships Return

I am a fan of anything Cruising including watching the documentaries and cruise programmes on TV. We have already had 6 series of “The Cruise” featuring Princess Cruises which has followed Ruby,  Regal Princess, Royal Princess and Majestic Princess. I was lucky enough to sail on Majestic Princess when she launched in 2017 on a short 4 night familiarisation trip from Trieste to Rome and had an amazing time with some of my colleagues on this beautiful ship. We also cant forget “Cruising with Jane McDonald ” that seen its 5th Series this year. She sailed on the Sun Princess this year  (Also known as the Love Boat) and I think this  one had to be my favorite as she sailed the West Coast of Australia  on a 12 night cruise but also combined this with several land tours.

One of the best-known names in cruising, Princess Cruises is a global premium cruise line and tour company operating a fleet of 18 modern cruise ships, carrying two million guests each year to more than 380 destinations around the globe, including the Caribbean, Alaska, Panama Canal, Mexican Riviera, Europe, South America, Australia/New Zealand, the South Pacific, Hawaii, Asia, Canada/New England and World Cruises. Itineraries range in length from three to 111 days.

Three new Royal-class ships are currently on order with the next new ship, Sky Princess, under construction scheduled for delivery in October 2019. Princess recently announced that two new (LNG) ships which will be the largest ships in the Princess fleet, accommodating approximately 4,300 guests with expected delivery in 2023 and 2025. Princess now has five ships arriving over the next six years between 2019 & 2025.

Another Ship related programme that I love watching is Mighty Ships. This isnt always about Cruise Ships but has been about freight ships and breaker ships in remote parts of the world. A new series starts this month on the Discovery Channel and will feature CruiseShips and River Cruise Ships. Holland America’s “Koningsdam” will be the first to feature on 31st March and this is another ship that I have been lucky enough to see, albeit  only a flying visit to Amsterdam , a tour of the ship and lunch and a flight back again. The programme will feature  her sailing in the Norwegian Fjords

The 2nd Episode on 7th April will feature the Viking Longships sailing in the Danube,Main and Rhine Rivers and the 3rd episode will feature Regal Princess on 14th April. If you are interested in anything cruising these are interesting to watch as they can also include the building of the ships and the more techinal side, which as a passenger you never get to see.

Ill definately be watching, will you?
