Boats, Wedding and Fun in Santorini

I have recently returned from a fantastic week in beautiful Santorini where we had a weeks holiday for a friend’s wedding. We stayed at the lovely resort of Kamari situated on the south east coast of Santorini, at the north foot of the Mesa Vouna mountain. There were 36 of us travelled for the wedding, with another 3 arriving the following day. 30 of us stayed at the Horizon Resort Hotel which is a 17 room small family run hotel. The hotel was a few minutes walk from the beach and the centre of Kamari and is housed in a traditional Mediterranean style building. All of the rooms were spotlessly clean with air conditioning (just as well as it was around 35 degrees every day) ,fan and mini fridge. The hotel also had a lovely swimming pool and pool bar serving drinks and snacks. The hotel reception and bar was run by the owner George and the cleaning was all done by his sister and mum, definitely a family affair.

The bride had organised a few things for us and on the second evening  we had 2 airconditioned mini buses pick us up to take us  to PK Cocktail Bar in Fira. This is a beautiful bar with spectacular views over the Caldera and we had one of the terraces reserved exclusively for us. The views were stunning as we watched the sun set and you could see the cruise ships below.

The following day we were picked up at our hotel in the afternoon and taken to the port where we had 2 catamarans for the day. The company ” Spiridakos ” were excellent picking us up in air conditioned mini buses and as we were a bit early took us on a tour of the southern part of the island first. We had free drinks and food onboard and the 4 crew members on each boat were really attentive. We set sail around 3pm and stopped 3 times for swimming, Snorkelling and at the sulpher baths and I even went for a swim off the back of the boat! It was beautiful to see the sun set at sea and actually made me feel quite emotional.

After a couple of days relaxing around pool the big day arrived on Monday 30th July. The wedding was at 5pm in the evening and held at the Cavo Ventus Villa in Akrotiri just 10 minutes from Kamari.

Again we were picked up in airconditioned mini buses and taken to the venue which was set on the  edge of the mountain and had the most amazing views. We entered into the venue through 2 wooden gates into a beautiful courtyard with a bar and the ceremony was held on a terrace above this. There was a wedding singer who sang all the way up to the ceremony starting and then while we had our meal too and he was excellent. After dinner we were then treated to a free bar and a brilliant disco before the buses came back for us at 1am in the morning.

The organisation that the bride put into it was seamless and its amazing that she organised everything for us along with planning the wedding too.

It’s a cliché when people say “I’ve had the holiday of a lifetime”  but I really did and I fell in love with Santorini and will definitely go back.
