Would you give up a coffee a day to be able to afford a cruise.

I have just spent a lovely morning in St Wendel in Germany with my partner Sonja. We were sat at a fabulous cafe in the Square called the St Jakob cafe bar restaurant.  We were discussing various things including the cost of coffee. We figured out that some people daily spend £2.15 on a coffee to go. Some people have two of these a day and for the convenience of having your coffee to go would you give this up in order to be able to afford a cruise?

It may take you just over a year but at £2.15 per day times 5 working days you are looking at £10.75 per week over 52 weeks this equates to £559 spent on coffee.  Having said that if I was asked to give up either coffee or alcohol? Alcohol would have to take the hit.

£559 will probably not get you to Hawaii! In fact I know it won’t, but for that kind of money you can certainly take either a sailing from the UK visiting several of the European ports you could probably even take a fly cruise for 7 nights. From any regional Airport to the Canaries in the winter months staying in an  inside cabin on Marella Dream for example.

Both myself and Sonya have a really positive attitude towards travel.  We think it’s one of the best ways to educate. Experience different places and cultures as well as learn some of the history of the destinations.  After having had this conversation over a coffee we are now going to stop buying convenience coffees and put the money in a jar ready for our next sailing.  It can be done if you put your mind to it and small changes can make a big difference to your future holiday plans. Martin Lewis says so and you need to make changes to your spending habits to be able to afford luxury holidays….
